Story time in my local library

March 24, 2016

Stephanie and River in the libraryThe Story Time program at the Burdekin library is an invaluable resource to parents in my community.  I have been taking my daughter, River, to story and baby time sessions at the library, with Jackie Kiloh, since she was eight weeks old.

At such a young age, River would have tummy time and was stimulated by the sounds of children laughing, music, and the rhymes, as well as watching the social interaction.  As she grew and developed, her involvement changed.  She became more engaged in the variety of visuals compiled to match the weekly themes and enjoyed interacting with the other children, and Jackie.

The weekly program that Jackie creates is so well prepared and engaging, accessing all different types of learners.  She creates an extremely colourful visual display of pictures, puppets, and decorations, accompanied by rhymes, songs, and stories.  The session is broken up in order to maximise the children’s attention span, making sure there are breaks for the more sensory and physical learners to dance and move to age and theme appropriate songs.

I thoroughly look forward to Story Time every week and watching River’s involvement change as she continues to grow.
